Anvil Theatre presents Shield Maiden, written and performed by Melanie Teichroeb, on December 16 at 7:30 pm.

Imagine a 10th-century TED Talk on what it means to be a Viking warrior woman. Garrison Commander Ingrid Larsdottir comedically endeavours to engage new recruits, inadvertently revealing her own tragic and violent personal history along the way.

As audiences watch Larsdottir struggle with her trauma and tap into her inner strength, the clarion call for equality and new recruits prevails. She empowers women to reclaim the warrior archetype in the modern world.

This modern feminist story based on a historical character explores the reality that not enough has changed in the treatment of women since the time of Vikings one thousand years ago. Fierce and unapologetic, Shield Maiden challenges untruths about women and gendered expectations.

The show is performed with an ASL interpreter present. Tickets and more details are available here.
