Privacy and Personal Information Protection Policy

At Stir (accessed via www.createastir.ca), we are committed to providing our readers with exceptional independent arts journalism and to providing artists and arts organizations that join us as partners with exceptional support. As providing these services involve the collection, use and disclosure of some personal information about our readers and members, protecting their personal information is our priority.

We will always respect our readers’ and members’ privacy and safeguard their personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronics Documents Act British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

We will inform our readers and members of why and how we collect, use and disclose their personal information, obtain their consent where required, and only handle their personal information in a manner that a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances.

Our privacy commitment includes ensuring the accuracy, confidentiality, and security of our readers’ and members’ personal information and allowing them to request access to, and correction of, their personal information.

Definitions

Personal Information means information about an identifiable individual, such as their name, home address, and home phone number.

Personal information does not include contact information, which is the type of information that would be found on a business card or in an electronic signature, such as name, position or title, business phone number and address, and business email.

We will only collect reader or member information that is necessary to fulfill the following purposes:

We retain readers’ or members’ personal information for a duration that is in accordance with PIPA requirements.

We are committed to ensuring the security of readers’ and members’ personal information in order to protect it from unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification or disposal or similar risks. We keep information safe with secure servers and password protected computer systems so that only authorized individuals can view your information.

Cookies

We use "cookies" to identify you when you visit the website and to help you navigate it. A "cookie" is a piece of data that is temporarily stored on the user's hard drive containing non-personal information about the user. Cookies do not damage files and cannot read information from a user's hard drive. Requesting access to personal information

Readers and members have a right to access their personal information, subject to limited exceptions. A request may be made in writing and provide sufficient detail to identify the personal information being sought. We will make the requested information available within 30 business days, or provide written notice of an extension where additional time is required to fulfill the request. If a request is refused in full or in part, we will notify the reader or member in writing, providing the reasons for refusal and the recourse available.
