ARTIVISM 2021 presents QUEER Coded: Slam + Spoken Word at MOA Haida House, October 13
Desi poet Anjalica Solomon headlines the event that’s part of the month-long UBC festival
ARTIVISM 2021 presents QUEER Coded: Slam + Spoken Word on October 13 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at MOA Haida House.
ARTIVISM is a month-long festival presented by UBC Arts and Culture District that highlights stories of resilience and student activist art that challenge dominant narratives through live performances, workshops, poetry, music, and more.
This year’s festival, running to October 22 and curated by artistic director and producer Bianca Santana, is themed Queering the Self. With an emphasis on queer storytelling, it aims to create space for underrepresented voices from the UBC community and beyond to explore the intersections of their identity through the lens of the digital.
AS part of ARTIVISM 2021, Anjalica Solomon headlines and hosts QUEER Coded: Slam + Spoken Word, an evening of performance that will explore gender, identity, social injustice, and more by a burning fire pit.
Solomon (Honey Queen, Fruiticana On Fraser Street) is a local genderfluid Desi poet, spoken-word artist, and multi-disciplinary performer. Their poetic work often delves into love, resilience, and joy from moments of struggle.
Audiences can meet the performers after the show at Koerner’s Pub from 8:30 pm onward
See ARTIVISM for more information.
