Arts Umbrella Dance’s annual International Summer Dance Intensive is underway at the school’s Granville Island location, with 180 dancers in attendance this year.

Dancers ages 12-22 come from around the world to train for three rigorous, inspiring weeks with some of the contemporary dance world’s leading and emerging guest artists and teachers. This year’s students hail from across North America, Japan, the Netherlands, Israel, Poland, Spain, Australia, Norway, and more.

Going on its fourth decade, the intensive is led by Arts Umbrella Dance’s artistic director Artemis Gordon, with the support and direction of long-time instructor Sabra Perry.

Students take classes in ballet, repertoire, pointe, pas de deux (for advanced students), Gaga, modern, Limón technique, partnering, contemporary, movement exploration, coaching, and conditioning.

Registration for Arts Umbrella Dance’s 2024 audition tour will open this fall. Those interested in learning more about the company, and being the first to hear about audition dates, can email Sam Tawaststjerna at dance@artsumbrella.com.
