Registration is now open for Summer programs at Arts Umbrella.

The non-profit arts education centre will host Art, Design, Dance, Theatre, Music, and Film programs for children and young people in Vancouver and Surrey this July and August.

The programs offer families a chance to experience the state-of-the-art new 50,000-square-foot facility on Granville Island, which opened its doors in April this year.

Summer classes on Granville Island run from July 5 to August 6; classes in South Surrey run July 5 to August 20.

Families with children ages 2 to 5 years oid can press “go” on their little one’s creative adventure in Art Start classes, while Creative Dance and Drama camps will get them moving and making up characters in the studio.

For ages 6 to 9, Art & Design classes include Drawing & Painting, Cartooning, Graphic Novel & Comic Creation, and Mixed Media, with opportunities to engage with Media Arts in Classical Animation, Computer Arts, and Kid Tech.

The Granville Island facility’s photography darkroom offers 9 to 12s the chance to discover how to develop film and work a manual camera, while students can also break out of the studio to explore Granville Island with arts instructors in a class named the Fine Art of Hanging Out.

The Arts Umbrella Theatre, Music and Film have workshops for multiple age groups in Acting, Sketch Comedy and Improv, Musical Theatre and Physical Theatre. There are also online options in Writing for Comedy, Writing for Theatre & Film, and Voiceover Acting.

Teens looking for even more in-depth tuition can also apply for intensives in Architecture, Contemporary Art Practices, Drawing & Painting and Dance.

Summer Camp programs are booked by the week, with some programs running over multiple weeks. Morning or afternoon classes can be selected to suit your needs, with limited full-day cohorts available.

All in-person classes follow strict health and safety protocols, including rigorous cleaning measures, physical distancing guidelines, and mandatory masks for those aged 6-plus, and will adhere to all public-health declarations.

Spaces are limited. Follow the link here to find dates, class descriptions, pricing and to enrol online.
