Astrocolor brings “AstroJazz” to the Whistler Summer Concert Series, August 8
The B.C. band blends jazz with psychedelic and electronic music to create a sound they describe as “meditative and interplanetary”
Whistler Summer Concert Series presents Astrocolor on August 8 at 7:30 pm at the Whistler Olympic Plaza
JAZZ, PSYCHEDELIA, AND electronica combined: B.C.’s own Astrocolor has a musical language all its own. Named Instrumental Artist of the Year at the 2022 Western Canadian Music Awards, the band describes its sound as “AstroJazz”. Think of it as a jazzy take on the spirit of Massive Attack, Air, or St Germain.
The act is bringing its experimental soundscapes to Whistler’s free outdoor Summer Concert Series on August 8. Astrocolor will perform songs off of their new album, Moonlighting – AstroJazz Vol.1, which was mixed and executive-produced by Grammy-winning artist Steve Christensen. According to the band’s website, the disc “sprinkles moments of electronic stardust atop a traditional bed of live drums, bass, guitar, saxophone, and upright piano” for a result that is at once “meditative and interplanetary”.
With more than 10 million streams on major music platforms, Astrocolor has performed at such high-profile events as Bass Coast, Burning Man, Shambhala, Rifflandia, Laketown Shakedown, and the Victoria International JazzFest.
The concert features a guest appearance by Kuba Oms, who was nominated for R&B Artist of the Year at the 2023 Western Canadian Music Awards.
Opening the show at 6:30 pm is DJ Surgeon.
