AFTER 17 YEARS at the Arts Club Theatre, Kathy MacKenzie is joining Ballet BC’s leadership team as its managing director.

Following an extensive search, Ballet BC announced this morning that MacKenzie would join artistic director Medhi Walerski to form “a new, visionary leadership team for the company moving forward”.

Originally from Toronto, MacKenzie moved to Vancouver in 2007, when she joined the Arts Club Theatre Company and took on roles including leading the Fund Development Department for seven years. Since 2021, she has been the Arts Club’s managing director. She’s also held roles with the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres and the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts.

She holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in theatre from UBC and a postgraduate certificate in arts administration and cultural management from Humber College.

Walerski has led the company since 2020. The troupe moved to a newly renovated space on Granville Island last year and is planning tours to Quebec, Ottawa, and California this fall. Its local season launches on November 7 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre with the Dawn program, including works by France’s Pierre Pontvianne, the Netherlands’ Imre and Marne van Opstal, and Vancouver’s Crystal Pite.

MacKenzie will officially assume her new role on September 3.
