Bassoon! is an exciting concert by Vetta Chamber Music that takes the bassoon, violin, and piano to strange and wonderful places with a powerful trio of women, each an artist in their own right.

The only piece on the program that was actually written for this grouping of instruments is Glinka’s Trio Pathétique, a stylish and romantic work. However, that doesn't stop Michelle Mares (piano), Joan Blackman (violin), and Ingrid Chiang (bassoon), from finding a fresh outlook on older works, like the Beethoven Trio in G, WoO 37 or de Falla’s Siete Canciones populares españolas, or from spicing up Ravel's Bolero, which they have arranged for piano—four hands—violin, and bassoon, along with other special effects! Also on the program is Shared Solitude by Marois.

Bassoon! takes place at 2 pm on March 18 at West Point Grey United Church; 7:30 pm on March 19 at Pyatt Hall; 2 pm on March 20 at Pyatt Hall; and 7:30 pm on March 21 at ArtSpring on Saltspring Island.
