The BC Movement Arts Society has announced it will be presenting Vancouver contemporary-dance company’s Albatross and Leftovers in the Northern Gulf Islands area during March break.
The troupe appears March 22 and 23 in Sointula’s Athletic Hall; March 24 at Port McNeill’s Gate House Theatre; and March 26 at Alert Bay’s ‘Namgis Lawrence Ambers Memorial Recreation Centre.
The Society prides itself in presenting Canadian and international dance artists, and bringing urban and rural together. Based in on Malcolm Island, BCMAS is one of the few professional dance organizations serving rural and remote communities in Canada.
In Leftovers, Josh Martin performs his award-winning solo, a virtuosic and highly physical investigation surrounding an idea that the body could hold a separate memory bank that is disconnected from thought. Albatross, performed by Martin with Lisa Gelley, was created by Brussels-based German Jauregui in collaboration with Company 605. This driving duet pulls apart a single moment, enabling us to dissect and experience its contents in expanded time.
