Malaspina Printmakers presents Big Print at Steveston on September 3 and 4 from 10 am to 5 pm (at 100- 4300 Bayview Street, in the Imperial Parking Lot)

THE SUMMER TREAT is back: the chance to watch printmaking with a full-size steamroller.

In Malaspina Printmakers’ annual art event, happening this year in Steveston, a series of four-by-eight prints are pulled right off the pavement. The printing press? An industrial-size construction roller. Taking place in a parking lot on Imperial Landing, seven different prints—designed and cut by artists Mariko Ando, Dona Nabata, Atheana  Picha, Kinichi Shigeno, Debra Sparrow, Cyler Sparrow-Point/Isaiah Sparrow, and Richard Tetrault/Gerald Pedros—are being inked and printed, three times each.

The team of professional and novice printmakers will make this both a learning process and an exciting collaborative experience.

Working primarily with a team of Japanese Canadian and Indigenous artists, this project will build on the past success of Big Print Chinatown 2016.

The resulting prints will be displayed at 100-4300 Bayview, along with a selection of prints pulled from previous steamroller projects.
