BlueShore at CapU turns 25 this year, and to celebrate its legacy of enriching culture in the region, it’s presenting a stellar show over two evenings, October 15 and 16 at 8 pm inside the newly refurbished theatre.

Canadian blues icon Colin James will treat audiences to a blast from his past with an appearance backed by CapU “Little Big Band”, and the North Shore’s own jazz star Dee Daniels will sing with the peerless 18-women Sister Jazz Orchestra.

The multifaceted show also features Mississippi Sheiks Revisited, which resurrects a wildly popular, sold-out, 2010 co-production (with the Vancouver Winter Olympics, no less). This reunion features alumni from the original production including Jim Byrnes, Steve Dawson, Daniel Lapp, the Sojourners, Suzie Ungerleider, and Colin James.

The all-women choir Maddalena’s Descant, conducted by Kevin Zakresky, will open the show on a “high” note (look way up, audience!), and the revered former CapU Jazz Studies NiteCap choir musical director Réjean Marois will lead an all-star ensemble of NiteCap alumni.

The ambitious lineup “celebrates the BlueShore’s past, present and future,” says Fiona Black, the theatre’s director of programming. “We also want to show our appreciation for our patrons, who’ve supported us through the years. So, we aimed to put together a thoroughly entertaining evening of performances.”

Tickets to the BlueShore at CapU’s 25th Anniversary Celebration are $35 at capilanou.ca/centre.
