Acclaimed California-based violinist and composer Jenny Scheinman will merge jazz vernacular and old-time fiddling traditions with a soulful performance at the BlueShore at CapU on October 21 at 7:30 pm.

Scheinman’s new double album All Species Parade is an epic homage to the extraordinary diversity of the Pacific Northwest. The record’s lengthy songs evoke a sense of pastoral calm and wonder, capturing what she calls “a charged relationship to the natural world”. Its stellar cast of players includes pianist Carmen Staaf, guitarists Bill Frisell, Nels Cline, and Julian Lage, bassist Tony Scherr, and drummer Kenny Wollesen.

In addition to having played on nine of Frisell’s albums, Scheinman has also toured and recorded with Lucinda Williams, Bruce Cockburn, Robbie Fulks, Lou Reed, Ani DiFranco, and Joni Mitchell.

At the BlueShore at CapU, her band will feature pianist Staaf, bassist Scherr, guitarist Adam Ratner, and drummer Mark Ferber.

Tickets are at capilanou.ca/centre.
