Québécois folk band Le Vent du Nord is set to bring its stellar musical talent to the St. James Community Hall on February 18 from 8 pm to 10 pm, in celebration of its 20th anniversary.
Le Vent du Nord performs in French with repertoire that includes rousing reels, lilting ballads, and breathtaking five-part harmonies. Touring to support its 20th-anniversary CD, 20 Printemps, the group promises a master class in musicianship, with everyone playing multiple instruments.
Pianist Nicolas Boulerice, who uses his deep, sonorous voice as main lead singer, is also a virtuoso on the hurdy-gurdy, a hand-cranked medieval string instrument. Violinists André Brunet and Oliver Demers engage in dueling fiddles and foot percussion, while Réjean Brunet juggles squeezebox, piano, and electric bass.
Tickets for this show, co-presented by the BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts at Capilano University and Rogue Folk Club, are $30 at capilanou.ca/centre.
