BlueShore at CapU presents jazz legends Regina Carter and Kenny Barron, June 25

A celebration of jazz music in all its myriad incarnations, North Shore Jazz, June 21 to 30, features five free concerts at venues across the North Shore, plus three shows at BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts at Capilano University.

Among the series’ highlights: Regina Carter and Kenny Barron perform a rare live show on June 25 at 7:30 pm at BlueShore at CapU. Piano legend Barron is an 11-time Grammy Award nominee known for his work with Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard, and Stan Getz. NEA Jazz Master Carter has collaborated with the likes of Wynton Marsalis and Dolly Parton. JazzTimes called the duo’s Grammy-nominated album Freefall “close to flawless”.

Presented in partnership with Vancouver International Jazz Festival, North Shore Jazz also features Mary Ancheta Quartet at West Vancouver Memorial Library (free, June 21); Lamia Yared at Civic Plaza (free, June 22); Terminal City Brass Band at Lynn Valley Village (free, June 23); Luca Benedetti Trio and Marois Vocal Project: An Homage to Dave Brubeck at Blueshore at CapU (ticketed, June 27 and 28 respectively); Mimosa at Civic Plaza (free, June 29); and Scott Smith and the Midnight Riders: Allman Brothers Celebration at The Shipyards (free, June 30).
