Sister Jazz Orchestra brings together Vancouver’s top female jazz musicians in a powerhouse 18-woman ensemble. With a primary focus on the deep repertoire of women writers, the orchestra is a celebration of big-band jazz from the female perspective—the other half of the story.
For this concert on International Women’s Day, the North Shore’s own musical star Dee Daniels performs with the orchestra. A musician who delivers passionate performances in multiple genres including jazz, blues, gospel, and original compositions, Daniels has performed with orchestras throughout North America and abroad.
In addition to her magnetic prowess on piano, Daniels adds a spellbinding four-octave-plus vocal range—described by Buffalo News as “rich, smooth, and slow as molasses”—to her potent spin on every song she touches.
BlueShore at CapU presents the concert full of empowering music at the Kay Meek Arts Centre on March 8 from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Tickets are available at capilanou.ca/centre.
