Adanu Habobo lifts off.

Some of the Pacific Northwest’s premiere African drummers and dancers are set to electrify the BlueShore Theatre at Capilano University on March 3.

Leading the musical brigade is the revered performer and expert in West African traditional music and dance Kofi Gbolonyo.

A virtuoso of the talking drum, Gbolonyo is a founding member, along with multi-instrumentalist Curtis Andrews, of Vancouver’s top drum and dance large ensemble Adanu Habobo, which also takes the stage. Joining Adanu Habobo are Seattle’s favourite drum and dance team, Awal Alhassan and Sheimawu Abubakari.

Also showcasing the exhilarating music and dance of West Africa are Sylvanus Kwashie Kuwor, master drummer and dancer from the University of Ghana, Legon, and Greg Campbell, a multi-instrumentalist faculty member of Cornish College, Seattle.

Igniting it all will be dozens of musicians from CapU, including CapU faculty guests Jared Burrows and Dave Robbins.

Expect a highly participatory party. Tickets for West African Music with Kofi Gbolonyo are at capilanou.ca/centre.
