Boca del Lupo is set to launch a new project for youth this spring called Plays2Perform: Young Peoples Edition, an anthology of 16 new plays by playwrights from across the country. This collection will inspire play and creativity in young people by engaging them with new plays specifically for them.

The scripts in Plays2Perform are a starting point for young people to find play, exploration, and passion through live, collaborative storytelling. With a variety of topics and tones ranging from serious to lighthearted, the collection will provide teachers with a wealth of scripts they can use to inspire performance and creativity in students.

The first 400 copies will be distributed for free to schools across Canada, through partner organizations Geordie Theatre (Montreal), Roseneath Theatre (Toronto), Manitoba Theatre for Young People (Winnipeg), and Vancouver International Children’s Festival (Vancouver). Boca del Lupo is aiming to bring on more partners for further dissemination in the future.

Plays2Perform is a new iteration of Boca del Lupo’s Plays2Perform@Home, a mail-order theatre project which delivers scripts that can be read together to people’s homes. Comparable to a theatrical board game, the project’s foundation in playful creativity without external direction has grown to be the basis for this next version, designed for young people.

The 16 plays that will be offered through Plays2Perform: Young Peoples Edition include Anika Dowsett’s The Trap, Sabrina Miller’s Caped Capers, Mieko Ouchi’s Snort Cackle Ha!, Luke Reece’s People Watching, Barry Bilinsky’s Intergalactic Superstars, Brianne Tucker’s All My Ancestors, athena kaitlin trinh’s VOICES, Brenda Kamino’s WHO YOU CALLING CHINESE?, Kay Komizara’s A Chat with GPT, Ellen Peterson’s Question Period, Aaron Jan’s GEODE, Omari Newton’s “Left” Alone, Tai Amy Grauman’s Iskwewo’s Dream, Michael Kras’s finsta, Nova Courchene’s DEWE’IGAN CLUB, and Spencer Stutman’s At the Edge of the World, by the Campfire, Near the Water.

Plays2Perform is a project by Boca del Lupo, conceived by Jay Dodge and Sherry J Yoon. Dramaturgical and production support for Plays2Perform were provided by Vancouver International Children’s Festival, Geordie Theatre, Roseneath Theatre, and Manitoba Theatre for Young People.
