Canadian Star System Podcast features Dan Mangan, Veda Hille
The East Vancouver musicians and neighbours appear on the latest episode of the Apostrophe show
DAN MANGAN AND Veda Hille are guests on the latest episode of the Canadian Star System Podcast.
Produced by Apostrophe, the show is based on the premise that this nation doesn’t really have a “star system” like that of the U.S., with many artists leaving here for there in search of work and recognition. The Canadian Star System aims to upend that.
It’s hosted by Steve Patterson (of CBC Radio’s The Debaters) and co-hosted and produced by Diana Frances, a Canadian Screen Award-winning comedy writer. In each episode, they interview a Canadian celebrity who then picks someone they think should also be well-known. That person joins in the conversation.
On the August 19 edition, Patterson and Frances chat with Mangan (“Diana’s favourite Canadian musician [Sorry Jim Cuddy, but you haven’t yet returned her calls]”) about Side Door, his album Thief. and why he’s passionate about helping other white Canadians educate themselves on Indigenous issues.
Mangan then introduces composer, singer, musician, and his East Van neighbour, Hille (who is very much a local celebrity). Hille shares how she first collaborated with Mangan on “The Indie Queens are Waiting” and discusses Little Volcano.
