Chor Leoni opens its 2024-25 season with Shadows Into Dawn, the choir’s 33rd-annual Remembrance Day concerts, on November 11 at St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church at 2 pm and 5 pm.

This cherished tradition offers Vancouver audiences a reflective sonic space to contemplate the realities and costs of war through song. The moving program spans diverse texts and cultural perspectives, featuring arrangements of beloved folk and popular songs such as Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are A-Changin’” and Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me”.

Among other highlights are Roydon Tse’s setting of a Tang-dynasty poem by Du Fu; an homage to change by Chor Leoni’s new composer-in-residence Marie-Claire Saindon; and a new arrangement of Indigenous musician Russell Wallace’s “Forgotten Warriors” in collaboration with Sam Dabrusin.

Accompanying the choir will be several local musical guests, including pianist Tina Chang, organist Michael Dirk, and trumpeter Katherine Evans.
