Chutzpah 2020 returns live and online with Guy Mintus, Idan Cohen, Ben Caplan, and more
Music, theatre, dance, and comedy run November 21 to 28
The Chutzpah! Festival is back for its 20th anniversary with both live intimate performances and online streaming from November 21 to 28.
The celebration of Jewish culture spans multiple genres, from comedy and theatre to dance, presenting performances from as far away as the U.K., Israel, and the U.S.
This will be the first festival to take place in a digital format, and the first helmed by new artistic managing director Jessica Mann Gutteridge.
The fest will be hosted by Iris Bahr, the writer, actor, director, producer, and host of the podcast X-RAE. Her solo show DAI (enough) was featured in the 2019 Chutzpah!.
Highlights include a performance by singer-songwriter Ben Caplan exploring the immigrant experience with his latest album, Old Stock on November 21; Israeli pianist and composer Guy Mintus on November 24; and choreographer Idan Cohen’s Hourglass, bringing together contemporary dance and live music in a duet for former Ballet BC company dancer Racheal Prince and returning Ballet BC company dancer Brandon Lee Alley ( joined on stage by pianist and conductor Leslie Dala playing Philip Glass).
