Co.ERASGA presents the world premiere of Accumulation at Performance Works on Granville Island from November 9 to 11 at 8 pm.

Accumulation is a dynamic transcontinental project by Co.ERASGA Dance, in collaboration with participating artists from the United States (New York), Canada, and France. Body, dance, movement, sound, costumes, sculpture, and visual objects are all components in the making of this unique live performance.

The timely production fuses a hybrid of disciplines to create new perspectives and experiences. Accumulation is a venture that speaks to the challenges of art and environmental stewardship. The piece asks audiences, can they push their minds, resources, practices, and concerns to attune creativity in response to the planet’s devastatingly alarming ecological state?

The project uses human-made objects, debris, and remnants of nature to represent surroundings, consumption, and excess. Centre-stage is the deterioration of the natural world, a landscape for haunting dance and sculptural choreography.

In Accumulation, the assemblage, association, manipulation, contemplation, and recycling of material objects stirs the creative consciousness, which becomes a realization and response to an earthly crisis.

Over two decades ago, award-winning choreographer Alvin Erasga Tolentino paid homage to the cycle and distress of nature in his first full-length work Sola. Now, in celebration of Co.ERASGA’s 23rd season, Tolentino takes dance to a deeper level of awareness in Accumulation.

Acclaimed Vancouver-based dance company Co.ERASGA creates cross-cultural and experimental works. The company has visited over 60 diverse cities and communities through projects that provide opportunities and examine current inter-societal issues. Its upcoming season delves even further into environmental stewardship.

Accumulation, postponed two years ago during production, is now ready to be unveiled. The collaborative work melds the disciplines of choreographer and dancer Tolentino, his long-time French composer Emmanuel Mailly, contemporary French sculptor Marc Gerenton, New York-based costume designer Meagan Woods, and Vancouver-based lighting designer Tory Ip. The 2023 season sees the long-awaited project come to fruition.

Tickets to see Accumulation are available here, and more information can be found at companyerasgadance.ca.
