DanceHouse innovates to enrich community through bold, transformative performances
To come back strong on the Vancouver stage, the renowned presenter launches its Dedicated to Dance campaign
What a year it has been. In the early days of the pandemic, despite so much uncertainty and upheaval, DanceHouse made a commitment to continue to enrich the cultural fabric of our communities with bold, transformative presentations.
DanceHouse—with unwavering support from donors—innovated beyond regular operations to honour that commitment and keep dance alive.
To come back strong on the Vancouver stage, DanceHouse has launched its Dedicated to Dance campaign, with a goal to raise $20,000 by June 30.
Whether you made it to a Digidance event, caught REBO(U)ND, or attended a Speaking of Dance conversation, DanceHouse wants to celebrate and reflect on some of the highlights of the past year and thank people for continuing to support DanceHouse during this unusual season.
DanceHouse offered an online 2020-21 season of six performances made possible through its new Digidance partnership formed with organizations in Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal. Many of you shared their gratitude for being able to enjoy Crystal Pite’s Body and Soul performed by the Paris Opera, learn more about Canadian’s dance master Jean-Pierre Perreault with Joe, or celebrate the 20th anniversary of Indigenous movement company Red Sky Performance.
Together with its long-standing SFU Woodward's Cultural Programs partner, DanceHouse moved the Speaking of Dance discussion series online. Speaking of Dance—Future Memory & Women Weaving Stories of Transformation featured three innovative presentations involving multiple artists in different locations worldwide and collaborated with Indigenous led companies. You can watch the informative and inspiring conversations here.
DanceHouse even brought dance, safely, to strolling pedestrians: for 10 evenings, the organization projected a short loop, REBO(U)ND, high on a downtown Vancouver tower wall.
This past year has taught DanceHouse how to meet the challenges and seize the opportunities of these uncertain times.
In 2021-22, DanceHouse will again offer a digital series to enjoy at home, and it is also ready to return to the theatre as soon as it is possible. DanceHouse is committed to continuing to innovate and to enrich the cultural fabric of our communities.
To do that, DanceHouse needs continued support through its Dedicated to Dance campaign.
Since 2008, DanceHouse has presented vibrant and inspiring companies from Canada and around the world. (Check out the DanceHouse archive here.) DanceHouse is grateful for people’s support in keeping communities connected through extraordinary dance.
