Diwali Fest 2021 lights people’s spirits, in person and online, October 23 to November 7

Diwali Fest 2021 runs October 23 to November 7 at various Lower Mainland venues and online.

The Festival of Lights, Diwali Fest 2021 kicks off on October 23 with an art workshop led by Jag Nagra  at the Roundhouse Community Centre. Giant community Rangoli displays will also be set up at this free event.

On October 24, the festival moves online to its YouTube channel for for Diwali Downtown Surrey: Digital Showcase at 2 pm. The event features performances by Shaan E Punjab, Spirit of Dance, Spandan Arts, Nishant Sharma, Elaina Collis, and other local artists. 

In collaboration with Vancouver Public Library, Diwali Fest is holding a virtual story hour with Canadian author Anjali Joshi on October 28 at 2 pm.

The annual event’s signature presentation, Diwali Downtown Vancouver: Digital Showcase, streams on its YouTube channel on November 2 at 6 pm! There will be music and dance performances by UBC Junoon, SFU Befikre, 604 Bhangra, Ruploops, SFU Bhangra, and Flare Dance Co.

This year’s celebration wraps up a lunch-hour Diwali @ Trout Lake Community Centre on November 7 with dance performances by local artists.

Diwali is the biggest and brightest event in the Indian calendar. The word diwali means “row of lighted lamps”, with light symbolizing the triumph of good over evil, prosperity over poverty, and knowledge over ignorance.

The Diwali Celebration Society produces the annual South Asian arts and culture festival. The organization’s slogan, “Light Your Spirit”, is intended to reflect its mandate to bring people of all backgrounds together in honour of “the universal light that exists in everyone”.
