Early Music Vancouver is hosting Bach & Mandolin at the Vancouver Playhouse on August 8 at 7:30 pm, during which Alexander Weimann will conduct the Pacific Baroque Orchestra along with mandolin player Alon Sariel, the company’s artist-in-residence.

Bach & Mandolin is centred around the Canadian premiere of Amit Weiner’s Walk with Bach, a reconstruction of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Italian Concerto.

The concert will also feature other Italian sources of inspiration, such as Vivaldi’s Concerto for 2 Violins in A minor; Bach copied and used the fellow Baroque composer’s work for transcriptions of his own.

The remainder of the program will explore exquisite Neapolitan repertoire for mandolin and orchestra, including Emanuele Barbella’s Concerto a 4 in D minor and Mandolin Concerto in D major, as well as Giovanni Paisiello’s Concerto for Mandolin & Strings in C major.

Tickets to the concert and more details are available at Early Music Vancouver.
