Experience the splendour of German-British composer George Frideric Handel’s music with Early Music Vancouver’s Handel: Hallelujah & Trumpets! at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts on March 24 at 3 pm.
Composer Matthias Maute will direct Ensemble Caprice and Ensemble ArtChoral as they perform a vast array of 18th-century music. Among the featured works are Eternal Source of Light Divine, Handel’s first and only court ode and one of his earliest attempts to win the hearts of English listeners with radiant music in their own language. Audiences will also hear his last anthem, Blessed are they that Considereth the Poor.
There will be a pre-concert chat with Maute hosted by composer-writer David Gordon Duke at 2:30 p.m. Additionally, guests are invited to come early to rehearse a special piece—the famous Hallelujah chorus—with Maute, and participate in an audience sing-along during the show.
Tickets and more details are at Early Music Vancouver.
