Early Music Vancouver welcomes the return of the exquisite U.K. partnership between internationally renowned countertenor Iestyn Davies and Renaissance viol consort Fretwork, directed by distinguished viol player Richard Boothby, in Lamento on November 26 at 7:30 pm at the Christ Church Cathedral.
Praised by the New York Times as having “one of the most glorious counter-tenor voices in the world today,” Davies is an early-music specialist who has appeared on stages worldwide from New York’s Metropolitan Opera to Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Fretwork has toured globally for more than 40 years, performing music that ranges from the Renaissance to the modern day.
Together, the artists will perform a programme that traverses the German Baroque period, based on Fretwork’s album Lamento (Signum Classics). The release features works by leading German Baroque composers Heinrich Schütz, J.C. Bach, and Dieterich Buxtehude.
