Now celebrating its 26th year, the Eastside Culture Crawl launches today with its stellar annual benefit, Take Flight.

This year’s fundraiser features an amazing online silent auction and the return of the wildly popular Art Roulette draw, featuring 30 pieces of original art by Eastside artists.

Now more than ever, the Culture Crawl is calling on the community to support the arts. This has been a challenging time for everyone, particularly for artists, who have been among the hardest hit during the pandemic. The majority of participating Crawl studios and artists rely on the opportunities and connections provided by the Crawl to support their artistic practices throughout the year. Support of this fundraiser allows Eastside Arts Society—producers of the beloved festival of visual arts, design, and crafts—to continue to offer free Culture Crawl festival programming, which provides a vital connection between artists and the public, transforming community through art.

Art Roulette is one of the most celebrated highlights of the Eastside Culture Crawl’s annual Take Flight event. Thirty Eastside Culture Crawl artists have donated an original piece of fine art and crafts, each valued $700 on average, including jewellery, furniture, clay, glass, painting, sculpture, and photography. Each lucky ticket holder receives a unique number that's entered into the random draw. The numbers are drawn, and the ticket holder gets to select and take home an original piece of artwork.

New this year, all Art Roulette ticket holders are invited to a collector’s cocktail party on November 5 at Georgia Art Studios where they get to pick up the art they won in the draw over some delightful cocktails all in one of the Crawl’s participating studios. Art Roulette is a fun and engaging way to get involved, support the event and be introduced to amazing artists’ work. Tickets are available now for only $400 plus GST.

Art Roulette artwork has been generously donated by: Fiona Ackerman, Sorour Abdollahi, Crissy Arseneau, Deborah Bakos, Christine Breakall-Lee, Janine Breck, Niina Chebry, Dana Cromie, Dorothy Doherty, Cameron Dougherty, Marney-Rose Edge, Galen Felde, Deanna Fogstrom, Louise Francis-Smith, Victoria Klassen, Kari Kristensen, Grace Lee, Jean Lee, Dzee Louise, Victoria Mitchell, Annette Nieukerk, Lisa Ochowycz, Karen Lorena Parker, Esther Rausenberg, Ideet Sharon, Amy Stewart, Laurel Swenson, Minori Takagi, Richard Tetrault, Jerry Whitehead, and Arleigh Wood.

Some extraordinary highlights include workshops from Crawl artists, a Sechelt Whistler Getaway packages, hand-crafted leather shoes, a double magnum of wine from Burrowing Owl, Herschel Supply Co. luggage, and a $350 gift card for Fluevogs. In addition to supporting the arts and artists of the Eastside Arts District, the silent auction offers great opportunities to bid on gorgeous getaways and fantastic local experiences and to get some holiday shopping done early.

Take Flight enables an entire community of artists to have professional opportunities like the 26th Annual Culture Crawl and the Create! Arts Festival, as well as provide in-studio art workshops for 220 inner city youth and develop an Eastside Arts District. By participating in this benefit, the public galvanizes EAS’s work in making the Eastside Arts District the vibrant neighbourhood we know and love - and will ensure we can continue to bring our community together through art.

ART HAPPENS HERE!
