On May 5 and 6, Elektra Women’s Choir will welcome The Women’s Chorus of Dallas and Seattle’s Mirinesse Women’s Choir for two spectacular concerts as part of their Tapestry International Celebration of Women’s Choir.

Known for their community leadership over many decades, the two guest choirs will perform a concert at the Pacific Spirit United Church on May 5 at 7:30 pm, featuring sets by each unique group. The choirs’ unity will culminate in a second performance on May 6 at 7:30 pm, this time joining the Elektra Women’s Choir: the Celebration Concert, held at the Christ Church Cathedral.

A truly symbolic fusion of talent, the Celebration Concert will feature 120 voices singing together in glorious harmony. The concerts will offer stunning contemporary choral repertoire from Canadian and American composers alike, including music by Rosephanye Powell; Dessa and Jocelyn Hagen; and Jane Siberry, arranged by Beth Hanson.

Elektra Women’s Choir is connected to women’s choirs around the world, celebrating and championing the artistic power of song.

The Women’s Chorus of Dallas, based in Texas, is recognized as one of the finest women’s choruses in the U.S. Founded in 1989 with an initial membership of 35, the chorus has since grown to a diverse group of over 100 members that performs three season concerts each year, and has released 11 CDs.

Led by artistic director Melinda Imthurn for the past 15 seasons, the Women’s Chorus of Dallas regularly holds free outreach performances at local social service agencies, bringing the joy of live music to underserved members of the community.

Based out of Seattle, Washington, the choir is made up of  60 to 70 volunteer singers who rehearse three and a half months out of the year. The choir has produced four CDs, and regularly supports new works through consortium commissions with women’s choirs across North America.
