Friends of Chamber Music first invited Emerson String Quartet to perform locally in 1979, at the beginning of the group’s eminent 40-plus-year career.

On May 8 at 3 pm at the Vancouver Playhouse, the esteemed ensemble will play FCM’s final concert of its 74th season

Emerson String Quartet has nine Grammy Awards and an acclaimed recording history of 30 distinguished performances.

“For nearly 40 years, the Emerson String Quartet has commanded a certain reverence from music lovers,” the Seattle Times once said. “Its polished and authoritative performances, its comprehensive and mighty discography, its fearless embrace of the new and unusual as well as the classics—all have placed this string quartet high in the pantheon of chamber music.”

The quartet has chosen a program of exquisite masterworks for the concert: Bela Bartok’s String Quartet No.1 Opus 1; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Quartet No.22 K589; and Ludwig Van Beethoven’s Quartet No.15 Op. 13.
