Teen Programs at Emily Carr University Continuing Studies offer engaging and accessible art, media, and design studios for creative youth ages 13 to 18. They also provide excellent preparation for post-secondary education and future creative careers.
Currently ranked as the top institution for art and design in Canada, Emily Carr University (ECU) helps youth unlock their creative potential. Hands-on courses are taught by industry experts and practitioners; plus, students get access to the university’s unique studios, equipment, and community. Applicants can choose between in-person instruction at ECU’s state-of-the-art campus or flexible online learning options.
ECU’s wide range of programs includes the two-week-long Spring Break Art Camp, which focuses on foundational skills; and the rigorous month-long Summer Institute for Teens, to prepare students for university applications.
At the Spring Break Art Camp, teens explore popular studio practices such as drawing, illustration, and stop-motion animation. Courses are open to all experience levels, and are recommended to help prepare for the Summer Institute for Teens in July. This year, Spring Break Art Camp takes place from March 18 to 22, and March 25 to 28. The deadline for registration is fast approaching. Learn more and sign up online before March 11.
The Summer Institute for Teens is a rigorous pre-university program. Over one month, professional artists teach students how to build their portfolios and push their artistic boundaries in preparation for their creative careers. Students receive in-depth training across various disciplines, from painting to game design, and develop technical skills while exploring new forms of expression. The Summer Institute for Teens takes place this year from July 2 to 26, and more details are available online.
ECU also offers the Junior Arts Institute, a basic skill development program which helps prepare younger students for the Summer Institute for Teens. Over two weeks, students explore 2D and 3D art-making with drawing, painting, animation, and soft sculpture. This year’s courses take place from July 2 to 12 and July 15 to 26.
