Early Music Vancouver travels through the centuries and around the globe in its fall 2022 concert programming.
The season kicks off on September 24 with Treasures From Byzantine Manuscripts. Vancouver’s own Constantinople, led by setar master Kiya Tabassian, shares the stage with Thessaloniki-based En Chordais. This concert features newly discovered music dating from 1480 through to 1800.
Next up is The Other Seasons on September 30. This concert journeys to 18th-century Venice with Juno-winning soprano Hélène Brunet and Austria’s Ensemble Castor in a concert of sumptuous works for soprano and chamber ensemble by Four Seasons composer Antonio Vivaldi.
EMV revisits the Baroque and travels to the Classic era on October 14 with Boccheriniana, a celebration of the charm and lyrical beauty of Boccherini's music alongside chamber music favourites by Mozart, Bach, and Maddalena Lombardi Sirmen. This concert features newly formed ensemble Accademia de’ Dissonanti led by cellist Elinor Frey.
Ethereal medieval polyphony shines through in A New Springtime of the World on October 28. France’s Diabolus in Musica will transport audiences to 12th-century Aquitaine in a program of music by the Troubadors, Trouvèrsk, and the Notre-Dame School.
EMV is also launching its popular Digital Concert Hall Series (DCH), consisting of seven filmed concerts plus bonus materials such as interviews with artists. Some of the DCH concerts will be taken from the 2022-23 season of live concerts, while others are from last season and one very special concert is a musical murder mystery from Montreal. Each digital concert is available for viewing at any time from its opening date to May 31, 2023.
DCH commences with Who Killed Leclair? A Murder Mystery Concert starting October 22 at 5 pm with Infusion Baroque with actor Mike Fan. Recorded in a private home in Montreal in July 2022, it features works by Leclair.
Prices for live concerts range from $36 to $75 and season subscriptions and single tickets are on sale now. Fore more information, see EMV.
