The Firehall Arts Centre hosts the Vancouver premiere of Ridge, an intimate exploration of Canadian history, from October 26 to November 3.
Often called the “battle that made Canada”, Vimy Ridge resulted in over 10,000 Canadian casualties. Through direct storytelling, verbatim theatre, and live music, Canadian folk-music group The Fugitives examines the misconceptions and varying perspectives surrounding the battle, while drawing parallels to other formative events in Canada’s past.
Named a top-10 arts pick in 2020 by the Globe and Mail, Ridge features inventive musical interpretations of First World War soldier songs, which garnered a 2022 JUNO Award nomination for Best Traditional Roots Album. It is a visceral work that passionately argues against the exploitation of young lives.
Ridge was written by Brendan McLeod, who performs the show alongside The Fugitives multi-instrumentalists Adrian Glynn, Carly Frey, and Christopher Suen.
