Luxe mittens, white-glazed ceramics, and statement jewellery, as First Pick Handmade Market hits Heritage Hall December 10 and 11
This year’s offerings include Heather Johnston Art’s iconic Vancouver street scenes and sleek Caroline Miller jewellery
First Pick Handmade Holiday Market takes place December 1o and 11 at Heritage Hall (3102 Main Street), 11 am to 6 pm
SERENE CERAMICS, cosy knits, and offbeat statement jewellery are just some fo the finds at this weekend’s First Pick Handmade Market at Main Street’s atmospheric Heritage Hall.
Amid the unique gift ideas, check out Heather Johnston’s mix of photography with painterly touches in her renditions of iconic Vancouver street scenes. Emblazoning artworks, throw pillows, wallets, and more, the grey-scale images include everything from the East Van Cross to the Granville strip.
We also love the whimsically named ohhelloleigh ceramics’ mix of Zen-like and cute. Serene tumblers, bowls, and other vessels with milky white glazes mix with such quirky pieces as rainbow mugs and mushroom ornaments.
Check out the gorgeous yet sleek and underestated bespoke jewellery by Squamish artist Caroline Miller, from a crab pincher necklace to textured cuffs and twisting geometric pendants.
And make sure to stop by the Winterluxe Recycled Cashmere booth, where First Pick founder Janna Hurtzig works with over-dying, printing, and sewing techniques to turn luxe salvaged fabrics into artfully new-feeling fingerless gloves, mittens, and much more.
