Friends of Chamber Music will welcome the Barcelona-based Casals Quartet to the Vancouver Playhouse on February 28, for a sensational evening of music featuring B.C.-born guest pianist Jaeden Izik-Dzurko.
Dubbed “a quartet for the new millennium” by The Strad, the Casals Quartet has an exciting sound that is described as “extreme technical perfection yet with life bursting from every note” by The Times UK.
The collaboration for this concert stems from Izik-Dzurko’s first-prize performance at the 2022 Santander International Piano Competition in Spain, where he played alongside the quartet.
The night will begin with Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet Opus 20, No. 6 in A Major, “Sun”, followed by György Ligeti’s String Quartet No. 1, “Métamorphoses Nocturnes”. The performance will round to a close when Izik-Dzurko joins in for Johannes Brahms’ Piano Quintet in F Minor, Opus 34.
Tickets can be purchased online through Friends of Chamber Music.
