Friends of Chamber Music welcome back beloved Han Finckel Setzer Trio

The ensemble of cellist David Finckel, violinist Philip Setzer, and pianist Wu Han is a Vancouver-audience favourite

Han Finckel Setzer Trio

Friends of Chamber Music are delighted to welcome back the Han Finckel Setzer Trio for its first concert of the spring season. Considered “as fine a piano trio as the world knows”, the ensemble is a Vancouver audience favourite, with eight performances here to date.

Cello player David Finckel and violin player Philip Setzer were long-time members of the legendary Emerson String Quartet, which performed its farewell concert in Vancouver in December 2022. In collaboration with pianist Wu Han, the group is preeminent in the piano-trio realm, performing masterpieces of the repertoire to international acclaim. As expressed in Reichel Recommends, “it’s the Han-Setzer-Finckel triumvirate that is the standard bearer.”

For this concert, audiences will be enthralled by two large-scale piano trios: Beethoven’s Trio in B-flat major, Opus 97, “Archduke”, and the Brahms Piano Trio No.1 in B major, Opus 8.

Please join Friends of Chamber Music on Tuesday, February 7 at 7:30 pm at the Vancouver Playhouse to hear stellar music from this “super-trio”.
