Soprano Golda Schultz makes Canadian debut, at Vancouver Playhouse on June 14
The South African-born, Munch-based artist is hailed worldwide for her versatility
Vancouver Recital Society presents Golda Schultz and Jonathan Ware at the Vancouver Playhouse on June 14 at 7:30 pm
SOUTH AFRICAN SOPRANO Golda Schultz is at ease in leading roles in operas such as The Rake’s Progress and Le nozze di Figaro as she is as a soloist for esteemed ensembles like BBC Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Philadelphia Orchestra, to name just a few. Born in Cape Town, raised in Bloemfontein, and currently based in Munich, she trained at the Juilliard School in New York and Germany’s Bayerische Staatsoper’s Opernstudio. Schultz receives acclaim worldwide for her versatility and charm.
She’s also a dedicated recitalist, working with long-time collaborative pianist Jonathan Ware. This season, Schultz and Ware are appearing together everywhere from Berlin to San Francisco in a program highlighting the worlds of female composers from the Romantic era to present day. Vancouver Recital Society brings the duo here for this, Schultz’s Canadian debut, a performance of songs written by women and about women that explore the female experience.
BR-Klassik, a Munich-based public-radio station and record label, once described Schultz this way: “Her voice is warm, natural, focused, it glows – a voice whose emotional power and beauty no one can resist.”
