Emerging theatre artists of all disciplines and practices are encouraged to apply for the Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance (GVPTA)’s fall 2024 round of its Hello program intake. For participating theatre performers, designers, stage managers, arts workers, and other production professionals, this application is an opportunity to get on the radar of hiring personnel from across B.C.

Hello is a way for those working in the arts to easily connect with new community members and get to know a wide variety of people who are looking to work and have skills to offer each other. Theatre professionals responsible for hiring artists and arts workers should also participate to improve equity, access, and opportunities while better matching their own professional needs.

Individuals may apply for up to two of three streams: Performers, Designers (set, props, costume, sound, lighting, or video), or Arts Workers (stage management, production management, or technical direction).

Those selected to participate in the program are invited to submit a self-recorded introductory video and any related pitch materials to accompany their resumé, all viewable through an online platform by registered directors, producers, and production managers seeking new collaborators.

The Hello portal is active year-round and updated every six months to ensure that each person featured on the platform is actively looking for work. Hiring personnel can download resumés to follow up with those they’re interested in speaking with. For producers, this offers a direct channel to emerging or underseen talent, especially those with specific backgrounds, experiences, and knowledge they might not have found easily through traditional auditions or job calls.

Hello is held and managed on the principles of equity and diversity. Participants from all backgrounds are invited, including, but not limited to: race, ethnicity, Indigeneity, gender, sexual orientation, class, and mental and physical ability.

This is another key project created by the GVPTA to match emerging artists in the theatre industry with other professionals, while addressing issues of diversity and representation by eliminating traditional barriers restricting access to opportunities.

The deadline to submit applications for the next Hello program intake is September 23. More information is at GVPTA.
