Vetta Chamber Music is going ahead with a serene classical concert by magnetic Vancouver pianist Ian Parker and Friends.

The concert featuring a solo, duo, and trio will take place at 50 percent capacity, with COVID protocols.

Parker himself chose Joseph Haydn’s Variations in F minor for piano for the performance. Vetta violinist and artistic director Joan Blackman says she was then inspired to assemble a program that would suit his choice of solo: “Haydn was stretching the limits of ‘classical’ with this unusual piece, pointing the way to the future.”

Parker joins Blackman and cellist Zoltan Rozsnyai in a performance of Felix Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 49. And rounding out the program is the Violin Sonata No. 1 in A minor, Op. 105 by Robert Schumann, who was a close contemporary of Mendelssohn.

As a pianist, Vancouver-born Parker has appeared with top orchestras including the symphonies of Toronto, Quebec, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Edmonton, San Francisco, Cincinnati, Honolulu and Cleveland.

Vetta Chamber Music presents Ian Parker and Friends on January 28 at West Point Grey United Church at 2 pm, then January 29 and 30 at Pyatt Hall, followed by a trip to ArtSpring on Salt Spring Island on January 31. You can find information and tickets here.
