The Khatsahlano Street Party takes place this year on July 8 along West 4th Avenue. The 10-block fair spanning from Burrard Street to Macdonald Street features over 50 bands across seven stages, plus a wide variety of food options, bustling patios, giveaways, special activities, and licensed beer gardens.
This year, the event invites all attendees to #EarnYourStripes by completing a series of must-see and do highlights from 11 am to 9 pm. Snap a selfie at one of the ribbon installations on display and tag #EarnYourStripes on social media to receive a limited edition temporary tattoo at one of the KHATS Tats Station.
The #EarnYourStripes scavenger hunt includes boatloads of fun activities. Many of them are food and drink-oriented: Stop by the t-Garden for a refreshing drink; Indulge in a delicious taco from Tacofino Garden; Grab a cone of ice cream from Rain or Shine; Enjoy a beverage at the Phillips Brewing Beer Garden; Watch or participate in the pie eating contest hosted by the Pie Hole.
Other checkboxes on the list are focused on exploring local West 4th businesses and brand activations: Visit a West 4th Merchant; Check out the Arc’teryx ReGear station to learn about their initiatives in care and repair, resale, and upcycling; Get a free gift from a vendor; and Meet an artist at the Host Nations pavilion.
More ways to EarnYourStripes and get in some friendly competition include: Playing a round at the Third Space mini golf course; Take a picture at the #EarnYourStripes selfie station; Catch a band at all seven stages (Burrard, Balsam, Vine, Trafalgar, Maple, Macdonald, and Yew); Play a game of bean bag toss at the TransLink activation.
And lastly, a few relaxing activities are interspersed on the checklist adventure to balance out the day: Sit on a West 4th patio and enjoy the view; Take a picture with a Khats sign; Visit the Ribbon tree on Maple Street and West 4th; Thank a Khatsahlano volunteer.
Created with love in 2011 by the members of the Kitsilano West 4th Avenue Business Association, the Khatsahlano Street Party pays tribute to the First Nations that inhabited the area by commencing with a blessing to honour Chief August Jack Khatsahlano.
