Massey Theatre invites audience members to jump into a Jurassic time warp during A Dinosaur Tale on Saturday, March 18 and Sunday, March 19, with 2 pm and 7 pm showings on each day.
This live-action fantasy tale featuring a cast of talented actors and larger-than-life prehistoric puppets is an adventure the whole family can enjoy. The zany stage production is touring across Western Canada this winter and lands in the Lower Mainland just in time for spring break, which means that school’s out and dinosaur lovers of all ages will have a chance to see the show.
The story begins when two 13-year-old kids, Declan and Lisa, are paired together on a paleontology-themed school field trip. A mysterious wormhole has brought dinosaurs into the modern-day world and it’s up to the duo of intrepid eighth graders to send the creatures home before their excursion is over.
The imaginative script was written by veteran theatre and entertainment critic Louis B. Hobson, who’s based in Calgary. The show premiered in the fall of 2021 and is now back for another Canadian run with tour stops in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and B.C.
A Dinosaur Tale is brought to the Massey Theatre by Annerin Productions, a company based out of Alberta that first took roots in 1981 as Jeff Parry Promotions, a booking agency. Over the years, Annerin Productions became an offshoot company that now specializes in tribute and book musicals. They continue to produce their hit musicals Juke Box Hero (Foreigner), We Will Rock You (Queen), and Let It Be (The Beatles), which is now the number one Beatles show in the U.K., Germany, and Japan.
Massey Theatre opened in 1949, and it presents over 200 events each season including choirs, ballets, orchestras, children’s entertainers, and more. Its capacity of 1,260 seats makes it the largest proscenium theatre in the region outside of Vancouver.
Tickets for A Dinosaur Tale are available for purchase through NW Tickets, and more details can be found at Massey Theatre. The Massey Theatre is located at 735 Eighth Avenue, New Westminster, and can be reached by phone at 604-521-5050.
