World-class intercultural music ensemble INTERWOVEN is coming to Vancouver on May 11 in a performance presented by local non-profit organization Müzewest Concerts.

INTERWOVEN features traditional Asian instruments such as the shamisen, piri, saenghwang, and erhu, alongside classical Western string instruments (violin, viola, and cello). The New York–based ensemble weaves together diverse influences from across places, times, and traditions, creating a tapestry of sounds as its musicians play.

The upcoming 7:30 pm concert at the Annex will mark INTERWOVEN’s Canadian debut with three national premieres of compositions inspired by Asian folklore. There will be a pre-concert discussion with commissioned composer Michael Ippolito and INTERWOVEN’s co-artistic director Sean Wang on the subject of cultural integration and clash.

For more than a decade, Müzewest Concerts has been bringing exceptional performances by international classical musicians to music lovers across the Lower Mainland and the world at affordable prices.
