One of Vancouver’s most exciting and innovative companies will perform on March 1 as part of the Dance Centre’s popular Discover Dance! series.

The performance takes place at 12 pm at Scotiabank Dance Centre.

Ne. Sans Opera & Dance was founded by artistic director Idan Cohen in Vancouver in 2017, with the goal of reimagining and reconnecting contemporary dance and opera. Cohen has electrified audiences with his meticulously crafted choreography, vivid theatrical images and intense musicality, quickly growing a devoted local following.

Accompanied by pianist/conductor Leslie Dala, this intimate program features countertenor Shane Hanson and Ne. Sans dancers, in excerpts of recent works set to music by Handel, Bach and Philip Glass.

Cohen was born and raised in Israel, famed as a hotbed of contemporary dance. At the age of 20 he joined the world-renowned Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company where he danced for seven seasons. Since 2005 he has been creating, performing and teaching as an international award-winning director and dance artist. Most recently he directed Vancouver Opera’s Orfeo ed Euridice to critical and audience acclaim.

The Dance Centre has been presenting the Discover Dance! series since 2002. The noon-hour shows are designed to provide entertaining, informative, and accessible introductions to a wide range of dance genres, featuring everything from contemporary, ballet, and flamenco to African, Chinese, and Indigenous dances, and more.
