An exciting new Art Hive is coming to the North Shore

North Van Arts launches a class designed to bring the community together through art-making

The focus is on fun, creativity, and community at the North Shore Art Hive.

North Van Arts is excited to launch the new North Shore Art Hive, a place to build community while making art.

“We recognize that having the opportunity to create with others can be therapeutic, fun, inspiring, and energizing,” says Joyelle Goldbard, arts education manager with North Van Arts. “When we read Domenica Mastromatteo’s proposal to bring an art hive class to North Van Arts, we were thrilled.”

Mastromatteo is an educator, advocate, mixed-media artist, and art therapist (in training). Each week, Mastromatteo will use art directives as a guide for making art—but what people end up creating is entirely up to them.

The Art Hive is designed for the community to come together to make art. No experience is necessary. Supplies will be provided each week, along with a little bit of inspiration to get started. This is an opportunity for artists and non-artists to explore new techniques and have fun.

“I believe art making is a human behaviour that offers the meaning making tools required to adjust to our new realities,” Mastromatteo says. “The North Shore Art Hive acts as a container, a scared space that welcomes everyone to take part in self-directed art making, in community, with others.”

The North Shore Art Hive will run for six Saturdays, starting November 13.
