North Van Arts presents Queer Bash, an exhibition of 2SLGBTQ+ artists’ works that explore the challenges faced by the queer community, until July 1 at CityScape Community ArtSpace.
Queer-bashing, the vicious assault on queer and transgender individuals, persists despite progress in LGBTQ+ acceptance. Inspired by North Vancouver’s debate of free speech versus hate speech, Queer Bash showcases works that embody joy amidst tragedy, challenge public versus private support, and blur gender boundaries.
Including guest curator, Andy Warner, eight artists are featured: Delzius, Ivy Hazard, Jasper Berehulke, Lara Therrien Boulos, Maureen Long, Nico McGiffin, and Shay Gavina.
Queer Bash will prompt viewers to reflect on navigating the dualities of violence and visibility. It shows that through dialogue and empathy, people can strive for a safer and more inclusive society.
More information on the exhibition can be found at North Van Arts.
