Artist Pam Assi talks One with Nature at Surrey Art Gallery, June 2
Painter brings the birds that helped her get through the pandemic to spectacular life
Surrey Art Gallery Association presents Thursday Artist Talk with Pam Assi at the Surrey Art Gallery on June 2 from 7:30 to 9 pm
Surrey Art Gallery Association is hosting Leicester City-born, Surrey-based artist Pam Assi for its final Thursday Artist Talk before breaking for summer, One with Nature featuring brilliant depictions of some of the small things in life.
When the pandemic had us all hanging out at home for longer than we ever imagined, Assi looked to the birds in her garden as harbingers of hope. Those long days opened up a new subject matter for her, the artist using vivid colours and exquisite detail in her acrylic paintings to bring the creatures to life.
“They helped me through these isolated times,” Assi says in a release. Every painting has a story, and in each, Assi describes how she sees the “human quality” of the birds and of their interaction with each other and with people.
In her illustrated talk, Assi will delve into her creative process and touch on how growing up in the UK in the 1960s and attending art college there have impacted her art and her life. She immigrated to B.C. in 1996. Some of her other works are also currently on exhibit at Blue Lotus Art Gallery and Willowbrook Art Gallery.
Admission to the event is free.
