As Music on Main celebrates its 15th season, its deepest purpose—listening together—has never been more vital or more clear. On November 19, baritone Tyler Duncan and pianist Erika Switzer perform the world premiere of Jeffrey Ryan’s Everything Already Lost. The YouTube release of the Juno-nominated composer’s new song cycle is free and takes place at 5 pm Pacific time.

Everything Already Lost sets four poems by Jan Zwicky. Zwicky’s poetry explores music and nature, memory, and emotion, while Ryan’s music is known for evoking great beauty. On the programme are: 1) Bill Evans: Alone; 2) Autumn Again; 3) Night Music; and 4) Schumann: Fantasie, Op. 17.

Commissioned by Duncan and Switzer, this new four-movement 22-minute song cycle was recorded by Music on Main in Vancouver this past August. With high-quality audio and video production, the video allows listeners to experience great music wherever they are.

Music on Main presents performances by Duncan and Switzer in partnership with the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts. This online world premiere also offers audiences the chance to learn more about the music and the artists through behind-the-scenes interviews.
