Since its inception in 2012, PRISMA's Sail to the Symphony (S2S) has become a cherished annual event, drawing music enthusiasts from the Comox Valley to the picturesque Powell River. This one-day experience offers attendees a seamless blend of travel, dining, and world-class music.

The journey begins on the Comox side, where patrons park their vehicles and walk on to a morning BC Ferries sailing. Passengers are whisked across the 31-kilometre stretch to Powell River. On arrival, dedicated buses transport them to lunch at local restaurants or an optional catered buffet lunch at the festival site before taking their seats in the Evergreen Theatre alongside hundreds more local attendees.

The musical program consists of performances by the 80-piece PRISMA Festival Orchestra, two student conductors, and two student Concerto Competition finalists, each playing a movement of a famous concerto of their choosing. This is followed by the performance of a symphonic masterwork under the baton of PRISMA co-founder and artistic director Arthur Arnold.

Post-concert, attendees are efficiently shuttled back to the ferry terminal, where they sail home, completing a day rich with cultural and scenic delights. Since 2012, S2S has grown, welcoming over 350 visitors annually, except for a brief pause in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.

S2S is also a testament to PRISMA's collaborative spirit. The event's success relies heavily on the logistical and financial support of BC Ferries, PRISMA's presenting sponsor since 2016. Regular meetings between the two organizations ensure smooth operations and clear communication, enhancing the overall experience for attendees.

In 2023, PRISMA’s contributions to local tourism were recognised with the Powell River Chamber of Commerce Business Award for Tourism. This accolade underscores the exceptional visitor experience PRISMA provides and its role in promoting Powell River as a thriving cultural destination.

Sail to the Symphony is a vibrant celebration of music, community, and the natural beauty of British Columbia, promising an unforgettable day for all who attend. Tickets for Sail to the Symphony sell out fast each year. However, there are two weeks of world-class classical music at the PRISMA Festival.
