Drinkwater starring Eric McCormack launches 2022 Reel 2 Real International Film Festival for Youth

Other feature highlights include Bigger Than Us, The Time Thief, and Stop-Zemilia

Kids and the young at heart will enjoy films from BC, Canada, and around the world at this year's Reel 2 Real International Film Festival for Youth.  In-person screenings are at the Roundhouse Community Centre and Vancity Theatre. The films can also be streamed online from anywhere in BC.  

Sunday Fun Day is back with a pancake breakfast, short film programs, an Indigenous Spotlight, workshops in three different styles of animation, and the Youth Filmmakers Showcase.

The opening film is the funny and quirky local movie Drinkwater, starring Eric McCormack (Will & Grace); and the closing film is the Quebec production, The Time Thief

Reel 2 Real will also present the Canadian premiere of the Ukrainian dramatic feature, Stop-Zemlia. Introverted Masha, sees herself as an outsider, unless she’s with friends who share her non-conformist status; and the USA/Canada co-production, Lamya's Poem, an animated feature about 12-year-old Lamya growing up in Aleppo, Syria. In English.

Other Canadian and North American premieres of international features include:

- Bigger Than Us (France) Produced by Oscar and César winning actress Marion Cotillard, about youth activists working to solve the world’s problems.

- Gabi, Between Ages 8 and 13 (Sweden/Norway) A young person tries to stay true to their gender experience.

- Karmalink (Cambodia/USA) A Buddhist, sci-fi, live action drama that deconstructs the class disparities of Phnom Penh.

- Martin and the Magical Forest (Mazel a tajemství lesa) (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany) A group of children overcome their differences to unite and protect the natural world.

- The Path (Der Pfad) (Germany) It’s 1941.Twelve-year-old Rolf and his father leave their home to escape Nazi persecution.

- Ziba's Wish (Iran) When nine year old Matin finds out that his older sister has cancer, he resolves to grant her one last wish. 

Reel 2 Real’s top priority is the safety and well-being of the public audience, workshop participants, and teachers.  All activities will follow BC’s current Health Guidelines.

In-theatre screening tickets are: Adult (19+) $11; Child/Youth/Senior (65+) $9.  
Sunday Fun Day $7 -Virtual access for households is only $40. School group access: $90.
