Witness eight Sitka spruce panels acting as “natural” sound speakers, as Vancouver New Music and Publik Secrets present soundgarden at Hadden Park this weekend.

The free site-specific sound installation can be experienced Saturday and Sunday (September 24 and 25) from 1 to 4pm at the site at 1905 Ogden Avenue.

For a few years now, VNM artistic director Giorgio Magnanensi has been building resonators from discarded piles of wood, reclaimed from mill operations on the West Coast. While sharing these instruments in his social and artistic practice, he was constantly amazed by how their presence and the quality of their resonance was received by listeners. These unique sound “speakers” fostered a deeper engagement with the creative spaces in which they were presented.

Now the public can enjoy ambient sounds within the resonating soundscape of this beautiful, urban, waterfront park. Magnanensi will diffuse a selection of music and sounds through the resonators as listeners come and go as they like.

Soundgarden – Hadden Park is part of Walking Festival of Sound 2022. Find more information here.
