First Impressions Theatre presents Roy Forbes at the Deep Cove Shaw Theatre October 22 and 23 at 8 pm.

ROY FORBES HAS been making music for 50 years and is now releasing a new album—his 11th solo effort—Edge of Blue. To celebrate, the Juno-nominated performing artist will take to the stage with his Gurian guitar at Deep Cove Shaw Theatre.

Hailing from Dawson Creek, Forbes is a national musical treasure, having performed at festivals, clubs, and concert halls all across the country and been a member of contemporary-folk supergroup UHF alongside Shari Ulrich and Bill Henderson. For 15 years, he has hosted Roy’s Record Room on the CKUA Radio Network (www.ckua.com), spinning some familiar but mostly obscure 78s, 45s, and LPs from his own collection. A member of the B.C. Entertainment Hall of Fame, he has a star on Granville Street.

The last few years have not been easy for the singer known for his high-keening voice: afflicted with poor vision all his life, he was blinded in 2015 by an accident. He has adapted to his new reality, his return to recording, touring, and performing all the more triumphant.

Edge of Blue is more of a soul album than country or folk, with 10 “art songs” conveying vulnerability, self-reflection, celebration, and more.

The concert is a fundraiser for First Impressions Theatre.
